Just follow the simple steps below in updating your phone to ICS.

Note:

  • Make sure that your phone battery is charge at least 60%
  • Backup your phone data into your computer.
  • Turn on USB Debugging, on your homescreen tap Menu> Settings> Application> Development. Then, make sure that USB debugging is checked.

Requirements:

  • Motorola Droid A855 ( rooted and have installed custom recovery)
  • Computer
  • USB Data Cable
  1. First, download update-cm-9.0.0-RC0-SHOLES-CDMA-KANG-signed.zip to your computer
  2. Then, connect your phone to the computer using the USB Data cable.
  3. Next, copy the file you have downloaded to the root directory of your SD card.
  4. Once you’ve finished copying the files, disconnect your phone to your computer.
  5. Turn off your phone, and go to recovery.
  6. When you’re in Clockworkmod Recovery make a Nandroid Backup just incase something goes wrong, you can restore it back easily. To do this, from the main menu select Backup and Restore> Nandroid Backup.


  7. Go back to main menu select “Wipe data/factory reset” and “Wipe cache partition”.
  8. Next, go back to main menu and select the option of Install zip from sd card> Choose zip from sd card> then choose update-cm-9.0.0-RC0-SHOLES-CDMA-KANG-signed.zipto start updating your phone to Ice Cream Sandwich Firmware.
  9. Finally, after a successful update go back to the main menu and select Reboot System Now.

you would think that this issue had been fixed now that the motorola droid has been out for 4 months or so, but i still get questions about it almost daily. users are still struggling to mount their droid to their pc for easy file transfer and it couldn’t be more frustrating. my windows 7 machine never had an issue, but my windows xp machine still doesn’t like to recognize a good “mount” (bad joke).

1. On your phone, go to Settings->Applications->Development.
2. Check the box for “USB debugging” and press “OK”.
3. Open your Windows Device Manager.
4. Connect phone via USB cable to PC.
5. Under “Disk drives” you will see an exclamation mark next to “Motorola A855 USB Device”.
6. Right click on that drive and click “Uninstall” and then click “OK”.
7. On your phone pull down your notification bar and select “USB connected”.
8. “Mount” your phone.
9. Back to your PC – Right click on “Disk drives” and “Scan for hardware changes”.
10. Your phone should now be mounted.
