On mine, SCH-I535UD for Verizon, the SIM card holder is about a quarter inch below the battery, directly in the center. So there's no need to remove the battery. Hope this helps!
This being 8 years old almost 9 still runs like a champ. Battery's still in good condition. I use it as my 2nd phone and plan to buy a wireless charging reciver for it.
