  • The PMC Adaptec 72405 and 71685 SAS/SATA 6Gb/s PCIe Gen3 RAID adapter are the industry’s only PCIe Gen3 solutions with 24 native ports. Note: Only drivers that are not included or embedded within a supported operating system are listed below.
  • The functionality of the Adaptec RAID 52445 depends primarily on the installation of the correct device driver which activates its built-in feature sets. By using the appropriate device driver this expansion card can adequately provide high input and output transactions based on higher bandwidth processing.
Recently I've been working on a FreeNAS system aimed at storing a large amount of data, mostly video files. I set up a test system using a couple of 1TB hard disks and now I want to transition recreate the volume using 3TB hard disk.

Sadly, according to this list the current version of the system's Adaptec Raid BIOS (52445, build 17544, where I need build 17911) doesn't support 3TB disks. So far, I've found the latest Adaptec Driver I need, but I've been struggling to get it installed.

I have a .tgz file on a USB stick now, which I've been trying to install using the Shell, giving the following results:
# mkdir /mnt/test/usb
# mount_msdosfs /dev/da0s1 /mnt/test/usb
# cp /mnt/test/usb/aac8x-amd.tgz /tmp
# pkg_add /tmp/aac8x-amd64.tgz
mkdir: /usr/local/drivers: Read-only file system
pkg_add: leave_playpen: can't chdir back to ' '
At this point I've got two questions:Download adaptec raid 52445 drivers

Download Adaptec Raid 52445 Driver Updater

52445 1: Is it even possible to update the Adaptec RAID drivers from FreeNAS?
2: If it IS possible, am I going about this the right way? And if so, what can I do about the errors the pkg_add command gives?
Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Windows device driver information for Adaptec RAID 52445

This hardware component is a PCI-Express Unified Serial RAID Controller device which incorporates Intelligent Power Management technology. It is capable of delivering excellent computing performance coupled with advanced security of data transmissions especially for enterprise class software applications. The functionality of the Adaptec RAID 52445 depends primarily on the installation of the correct device driver which activates its built-in feature sets. By using the appropriate device driver this expansion card can adequately provide high input and output transactions based on higher bandwidth processing. This type of technology implemented by its device driver successfully complements the data transfer rates achieved by SATA based drives including those of SAS storage devices. The main processing power of the Adaptec RAID 52445 is derived from its RAID on Chip which is composed of a dual core and ably supported by 512 MB of DDR2 memory dedicated for write caching operations.

In terms of connectivity the Adaptec RAID 52445 complies with the specifications of the x8 PCI-Express which allows for the delivery of more than 250,000 input and output processes using approximately 1.2 gigabytes transfer rate. By supporting SAS expanders this hardware component and its corresponding device driver becomes capable of supporting a maximum of 256 SATA and SAS based devices. Aside from supporting a number of storage devices the device driver is also compatible with numerous mainstream network operating system platforms contributing to its wider deployment. The device driver also supports the execution of a proprietary management software application that is designed to cater to array storage management. The Intelligent Power Management technology implemented by this hardware component and its supporting device driver lowers the operational cost for computer networks. This is achieved by spinning down idle storage devices resulting in lesser cooling requirements and eventually lower power consumption for the active disks. It is highly recommended you run a free registry scan for Windows and Adaptec RAID 52445 errors before installing any driver updates.
